Service and Outreach
ECOM and St. Peter's Parish offer several opportunities for service and outreach during the regular academic year, including "Manna" and "Leap Frog". "Manna" (scriptural, bread from heaven) is a feeding ministry to a diverse community of Oxford residents, including Oxford Housing Authority, Canterbury Crest/Hollyview Place, referrals from Oxford Interfaith Compassion Ministry, children/families of LeapFrog after-school program, and many others. Thursdaysonly: 2:30-5:30 p.m. from St. Peter's Church Kitchen, we always need volunteers who can spare an hour or more to serve in a particular role: cook, cooking assistant, meal assembly, delivery person, and clean-up. Interested? Complete the MANNA Volunteer Form or contact the Volunteer Coordinator with questions: Logan Rush: jlrush@olemiss.edu
Leap Frog is an after-school tutoring and enrichment program that serves first and second graders from Lafayette County and Oxford City schools Monday through Thursday. Leap Frog is sponsored jointly by St. Peter's, Oxford-University United Methodist and United Way. During the fall and spring semesters student volunteers are needed to help tutor, mentor and carpool students home. We tutor from 3:00-4:00 and mentoring is from 4:00-5:00. We have two sites: St. Peter's and Oxford-University United Methodist churches. Leap Frog's semester is shorter than the University's, we start about a week after school starts and end the last week of classes before finals. If you are interested in volunteering or want more information contact the Executive Director Teresa Adams at 662-234-2411 or by e-mail: leapfrog@dixie-net.com
*Service and outreach are central to our life together in Christ. We wish to provide something for everyone, understanding service as our duty to God (faith-in-action). We experience them as something rewarding, fun, and community building. For more information on programs and different ways to serve, contact us or visit the ministries page of St. Peter's.
