Who We Are

ECOM (The Episcopal Church at Ole Miss)
as a campus ministry and official religious organization of the University of Mississippi at Oxford - is committed to being a "spiritual center" in the midst of the university experience, and St. Peter's Episcopal Parish is our local "home".  Our humble, daily intention is to be a place where anyone feels welcome to gather and learn how best  to seek and serve Christ in all persons (loving one's neighbor as oneself).  We seek to serve as a facilitator of balance, providing just enough, if not more spiritual nourishment for students, faculty, and staff.  We want to enrich full daily lives, most often loaded with study, work, and play.  We offer diverse opportunities for worship, service, fellowship, and education (based on the university's academic calendar and occasional breaks).  We strive to offer balance!

Through support from St. Peter's Episcopal Parish Church and the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi, ECOM (Episcopal Church at Ole Miss) invites students, faculty, staff, administration, and all persons into "The Christian Experience through Word, Sacrament, Service, and Fellowship" at the University of Mississippi.  ECOM invites all to get involved with the many, exciting happenings of our common life together.  Our community is fully inclusive of all persons, regardless of race, creed, color, sexual orientation, age, as well as any physical and/or mental disabilities.

ECOM encourages people to "come and see" what we do to learn more about ECOM, namely because our approach to the faith might be a bit different from what some have experienced.  It is, without a doubt, more focused on group participation in the worship experience than many other traditions.  All that we are, do, and offer represents our heritage as one of the oldest Christian denominations (1549): The Episcopal Church (USA) - unusually Protestant yet Catholic, with deep roots in The Church of England (Anglicanism).

ECOM prayers and songs stress the importance of worshipping in one's own language according to, but not limited to The Book of Common Prayer.  We uphold a three-fold approach to Christianity (Scripture, Tradition, Reason) and attribute this construct to Richard Hooker (England: 16th century).  Our best symbols of unity in Christ are the sacraments of Baptism and the Holy Eucharist (Mass, Holy Communion, Supper of Our Lord).

We hope that you will "come and see" what we are about.  Should you have any questions or comments about ECOM, contact the Chaplain, Fr. Seth Walley, via mobile-office phone (228-219-7384) or by email (ecom@olemiss.edu) or contact St Peter's (662-234-1269).
